Abstract

As part of the surface and groundwater study and conservation projects (ISOAGUA and CIANOCUBA), in which Radon (222Rn) is used as a hydrogeological radiotracer, the Cienfuegos Environmental Studies Center (CEAC) proposed the task of studying the potential areas containing Radon gas in the Damují watershed. The application of the 10-point method made possible the mapping at a scale of 1:100,000 of the Radon potential in the Damují hydrographic basin. The field measurements made possible a statistical analysis and correlation between Radon in soils and waters. Several zones with relative values of Radon gas potential in soils were identified. Radon gas concentrations in water showed stable results within the limits established by the World Health Organization. On the other hand, the measured Radon concentrations allowed to analyze the behavior of the interaction between groundwater and surface water.
